I recently had a hernia repair, and i was wondering if that can cause a varicocele?

There is really no such relationship. Hernia surgery takes care of the specific area and specific problem only.L-carnitine for varicocele?

I don't think you will have much effect on the varicocele by taking L-carnitene. While it is helpful when dealing with transport of fatty acids, and there was some talk of it helping with sperm production, that isn't really your partners problem. A varicocele is just a varicose vein in the scrotum, and the testes themselves are actually only rarely affected. Before you go trying things, I'd suggest you have a sperm count done first. You will most likely discover that his sperm count is just fine and not being affected at all. Most males actually do sucessfully become fathers without any correction required. The thing is, nobody is actually sure that a varicocele actually affects sperm production the majority of the time. The theory is that it is the elevated temperature which affects production, but you can have a large varicocele present and still have a very normal sperm count. You can also have a very small one, and a low count. For the most part, unless your fiance has symptoms, such as pain, a decreased sperm count, or shows testicular atrophy, most urologists prefer not to meddle in the region. The surgery itself can cause damage that will decrease sperm production, and in about 20% of the cases, the varicocele will happen again. My DH has a large one, but also has a very normal sperm count, and we have four children. We never had trouble concieving at all. I even assisted with the vasectomy of a gentleman who had one of the largest ones I'd ever seen. He and his wife had six children, and were expecting twins! So I would recommend you have a sperm count done first, and then talk with a urologist about possible surgical correction. But honestly, if the count is normal and he's not having problems other than not liking the look, I'd not have surgery done. After all, if it isn't broke, it doesn't need fixing. As far as the L-carnitene, he'd get plenty of that via his diet most likely. If you wanted to increase the intake, keep in mind that the body absorbs nutrients best from food sources and less well from tablets. So try to simply increase the amount of foods that contain it.
