Q&A: What are the possible causes of infertility in both men and women?

What are the possible causes of infertility in both men and women?

there are quite a few, women have some std related infertility problems, there is one std(don't remeber what it is) that does nothing to men at all but it destroys the tubes in women so they become infertile. radiation exposure even from x-rays thats why you have to wear a sheild atthe dentistwhen they x-ray your mouth.

some people are born that way, some people have surgury to do it. lets see what else. in males to much damage to his reproductive organs can cause it don't know about females being damaged there though. thats all I can think of.What are the causes of infertility in both men and women?

There are entire books dedicated to the conditions in both sexes.

and here for women:
http://yourtotalhealth.ivillage.com/fertility-issues/I know some women on birth control have said they couldnt reproduce after being on birth control for a long period of time. It different with everyone though.smoking causes erectile dissfunction in men and i think can lower or decrease sperm counts and activity, some stds can cause infertility for both men and women, endometriosis (not an std) can cause infertility for women, sometimes drugs or even prescription drugs can cause infertility. sometimes age is a factor people get less fertile with age. There are alot of causes. If a male has a low morphology or motility (sperm count and how fast the sperm swim) it can be from smoking, excessive abuse of alcohol, lack of Zinc, Selenium, Sulpher, and Vit C. Normally low sperm count is temporary though.
In Women it can be endometriosis, or bad dieting, if a female has too much Vit C the cervix dries up and is unable to carry the sperm to the uterus.

Diagnosing Semen May Offer Solutions for Men with Infertility Issue

Article by Justin DiMateo

Infertility can be a tough condition or disease for many men. They may feel as though they have few choices, while some may feel that their situation is too much to overcome. In fact, several treatments exist that may provide help to men or women suffering from infertility problems. Analyzing the semen of men experiencing an infertility issue may provide answers that doctors need to recommend certain treatments. Semen analysis laboratories may be helpful in pinpointing a problem or collecting enough data and information to diagnose the problem causing infertility. Speaking to a medical professional is the best way to obtain information regarding these laboratories and to better understand the process.

Going into a consultation with a basic understanding of semen analysis may be beneficial to men seeking answers to their infertility issue. In many cases, one of the first tests a doctor will administer for couples having problems conceiving is a semen analysis. Once enough information has been collected from both partners, fertility doctors may be able to identify the specific problem causing the couple's infertility and then discuss possible routes they may take to overcome their problem and/or achieve their fertility goals.

The semen analysis is a noninvasive procedure, which is why many doctors use this test before others. The test may take several months before the results may be fully comprehended, as it takes men about three months to produce mature sperm. So, results from any treatments may not appear for four to six months. As it may take several months to complete testing on the woman, the semen analysis is administered around the same time so that there is no delay following the woman's test.

The evaluation will usually be helpful in determining if the man's semen or sperm are causing the infertility issues that the couple may be experiencing. The purpose of this procedure is to maximize the man's semen quality so that conception may take place more easily. While some men with poor semen analysis may conceive more easily than other men with good semen analysis, as a group, men who have good semen analysis conceive more easily than those who do not.

The evaluation may help to rule out possible medical ailments that may be causing poor semen analysis or infertility. Patients should speak to a fertility specialist regarding semen analysis, their own ability to conceive and any treatments that may be helpful in overcoming infertility.
