it should be a fairly simple surgery with a rather quick recovery. You may be a little sore on return to school, but they will probably instruct you to wear support underwer such as briefs instead of boxers, take ibuprophen for discomfort & to rest as much as possible. Would it be possible for you to go home after half a day if it is too tiring for you.That might be an option, to make sure you get the most important classes during that time.

I had varicocele surgery back in 1995 and was advised that no sexual activity should take place for 6 weeks. I ignored that advice, and ultimately ended up back in hospital not long after. I don't recommend it.It's best to wait the recommended time unless you want to end up in a worse situation. From personal experience, masturbating will only increase blood flow and bring more pain down to your balls.
