It'll need about a week for the swelling to go down and about another 2 to 3 weeks for everything to return to normal.

He'll need to heed the doctor's advice regarding underwear and bathing to make sure the healing process works.

He could try using arnica cream to help it heal more quickly. It's an astringent that is supposed to help reduce swelling.

Even after it all calms down, you will still be able to feel the epididymis and the other structures in the scrotum. I had varicocele surgery and I dont think it worked?

If you read around that surgery is a pain. All surgery for men down there is a pain I know.

The biggest issue is the skill of the surgeon. I had some bad experiences that led to nerve damage and eventually an orchiectomy and still I have pain. So, definitely seek a second opinion.
