Do i have varicoceles?
Do i have varicoceles?
Brandon, I saw varicoceles in a lot of teens like yourself. It's quite common, and nothing to be ashamed about. Nothing you did brought it on. The statistics on fertility vary a lot from study to study. Repair of the varicocele in adults does not seem to alter fertility. This is based on statistics, and applies only indirectly to any given individual.
If you notice a dramatic change in size, you may have a communicating hydrocele of the spermatic cord rather than a varicocele. Perhaps you would best check with your doctor. Your mum wants only the best for you; tell her and don't be embarrassed.its not dat kinda case dat u cud tell wether u ve got varicocele or not jz frm d discription u ve jz given.u gotta confirm wid a doctor..
however, u cud do sum examinations yo self:
a. does it feel heavy on yo testes?
b. on palpation, cud u make the venous feel on yo fingers?
c. and on increasin d abdominal pressure( coughin, tightenin the abs..etc), does d mass bcum more prominent?
d. n is it reducible?..dats is, cud u push it inside?( dis rules out hernia)
e. does yo left testes appear smaller?
n bout infertiliy, i'm not sure..infac,most of d doctors aint sure bout it. it may lead to infertile but not always. all u gotta do is to get it treated n cmon dere's nothin embarrasin... try tellin yo dad n sure he'll help yo out.
hopin u get al rite!!Varicoceles may be one reason for infertility, however, that is even up for debate itself. However, pain is mostly present with someone who has varicoceles and this is the reason for having them surgically tied off. Most studies show that having the surgery does not necessarily increase fertility. It is done more so for the physical pain of having them. (I have seen studies that claim varicoceles are the cause of infertility and that the surgery improves that, but I have also seen studies that state the complete opposite....you may have also with your google searches.) AND working in surgery myself, assisting on these procedures, and discussing the pro's and con's with the surgeons, it is largely the belief that the surgery's benefit will be to decrease pain and not to guarantee increased fertility.
Therefore, if you do not have pain, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about right now especially since you are only 14. If you are really concerned about it, you should talk to your doctor about it. You could just ask him for a pamphlet on them.
